American intelligence reports indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to limit himself to Donbas, Kherson region and Zaporizhia . He needs all of Ukraine, and not just that. This is a plan to bring all the territories of the former USSR under Moscow’s control. Reuters reports this with reference to six sources familiar with American intelligence data.
The publication notes that the intelligence reports are strikingly different from the picture painted by US President Donald Trump and his team: while seeking a quick settlement in Ukraine, they publicly tell the public how much Putin wants peace.
The latest intelligence report, dated late September, has not changed much since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, according to one of the Reuters sources. It largely aligns with European intelligence agencies, which say the Kremlin wants all of Ukraine, as well as territory in other former Soviet bloc countries, including current NATO members.
“The intelligence has always indicated that Putin wants more. The Europeans are convinced of that. The Poles are absolutely convinced of that. The Baltic states see themselves as first [in line for a Russian invasion],” Democrat Mike Quigley, a member of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, told Reuters.
As Reuters notes, it is not entirely clear what the White House thinks about Putin’s plans. Something resembling an acknowledgment of reality was voiced today at a press conference by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“I don’t know if Putin wants to make a deal or if Putin wants to take over the whole country. These are things he has talked about openly. We know what they wanted to achieve initially when the war started. They didn’t achieve those goals,” he said.

Of course Trump will not believe his own intelligence apparatus. He has said many time he trusts Putin more.
One of the Ironies of this situation is that if Trump had a manager who performed as poorly a Putin has Trump would have fired him long ago.
That’s just the problem with the Taco; he doesn’t see poor performance, even when it sits as a big fat zit on his nose. That’s why he bankrupted at least 6 businesses, one of which was a casino. Look at the collective losers he chose for his cabinet. Rubio is the only one he has that doesn’t perform poorly all the time.
