Ukraine’s Forces say they tracked and struck the base of Russia’s elite “Rubikon” unit in the occupied part of Donbas. The unit specializes in drone warfare. The attack reportedly used FP-2 UAVs with warheads weighing more than 100 kilograms.

Footage of the operation was published on September 19 by the Ukrainian OSINT project “KiberBoroshno.”

The target was identified in the village of Ukrainsk, in Russian-occupied Donetsk region. Four FP-2 drones struck the building where Russian drone operators were believed to be located, leaving it nearly destroyed, according to the report. A reconnaissance drone adjusted the strike and filmed it from the air.

Russian losses from the strike are still being assessed.

Rubikon is a relatively new elite Russian unit created in August 2024 by order of Defense Minister Andrei Belousov. It specializes in combat operations using unmanned systems-including FPV drones—for reconnaissance, fire adjustment, and strikes on mobile and stationary targets. The unit also functions as a technology and training hub, preparing operators and testing and fielding innovations in unmanned systems.

The FP-2 is a Ukrainian-designed strike UAV capable of carrying out long-range air attacks. It is equipped with a powerful warhead of about 105 kilograms, has a range of up to 200 kilometers, and can conduct precision guidance and in-flight correction with the help of reconnaissance drones. The FP-2 is an evolution of the FP-1, offering greater striking power and endurance.
