Ukraine will receive the Patriot air defense system in the coming weeks, all issues are currently being coordinated at the level of the defense ministries.

This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, reports Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform .

“In these hours, the defense ministries are discussing the details of how we can ensure the appropriate supply of Patriot to Ukraine in a short time. This could take weeks. The negotiations are very specific, the American side is ready to do this, but we do not have a result yet,” Merz said .

The Chancellor suggested that “in these hours” agreements will be reached between the defense ministers that will make what the American president promised technically possible.

“The US is ready to provide Ukraine with weapons that will be financed by European partners. Germany wants to make a significant contribution to this. We need to discuss the details with our partners as soon as possible,” Merz said.

The German Chancellor recalled that an agreement had been reached in recent days that new Patriot systems would be delivered to Ukraine from the European continent and Eastern Europe as a whole, and that these systems would then be replaced by the United States. The important question now is when such a replacement could occur.

“Above all, we need clarity on how the US will replace the weapons systems transferred by Europe… Ultimately, we must also maintain our own defense capabilities,” the German Prime Minister emphasized.

The German government head also added that Ukraine “soon – in the coming weeks and months” will receive further support “on a large scale”, including in the issue of long-range weapons, in particular through industrial cooperation that Germany is carrying out jointly with Ukraine. Merz refused to disclose details and once again evaded answering the question of whether Taurus missiles would be delivered to Ukraine.

In the context of the introduction of US sanctions, the Chancellor also expressed hope that the US government, together with the US Congress, will adopt the decisions that have been prepared in Congress for several weeks. He noted that all these decisions increase the pressure on Putin to finally negotiate peace, and also show that Europe and the US are joining forces in security policy.
