A new commission will be created to consider the participation of Ukrainian athletes in the competitions.

Ukraine has lifted a ban on participation in competitions with representatives of Russia and Belarus , even if they participate under their national symbols. However, other regulatory restrictions will be imposed, reports “Suspilne” .

Ukraine lifts ban on participation in competitions with Russians and Belarusians

The publication recalled that earlier, the head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Vadym Gutzait, told reporters that Ukrainian athletes would participate in international competitions where representatives of Russia and Belarus are present. He also announced changes to the order of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, according to which the ban on participation in tournaments where there are Russian and Belarusian athletes competing under their own flags is lifted.

In addition, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidny, shared that a special commission will be created to determine the tournaments in which Ukrainian athletes will participate, if Russians and Belarusians are present there.

“This does not mean that we will go wherever Russians are present. But we cannot exclude ourselves from the international sports agenda. Corresponding amendments to the order of the Ministry of Youth and Sports have already been made. The ban on participation in competitions where Russians and Belarusians with their symbols are present remains, but there are exceptions. A special commission is currently being formed that will consider the advisability of Ukrainian athletes’ participation in certain competitions,” Bidnyi clarified.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine noted that the composition of the commission that will consider the participation of Ukrainian athletes in the competitions is still being formed. It is already known that it will include representatives of the NOC and NPC of Ukraine, as well as the Sports Committee of Ukraine, and representatives of the security and defense sector.Read also:

The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine clarified in a conversation with journalists that the commission will make a recommendation on whether to send Ukrainian athletes to international competitions, taking into account security conditions (including the possibilities of protecting athletes from propaganda). The commission’s assessment will take into account potential risks and prospects, as well as opportunities for top results for Ukrainian athletes.

Chess Federation votes to return national symbols of Russia and Belarus

Earlier, the General Assembly of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) voted to return national symbols to tournament participants from Russia and Belarus. Two resolutions were put to the vote – one from the Russian Chess Federation and the other from the FIDE Council.

As a result, delegates voted for two resolutions: 61 countries voted “yes” for the Russian resolution, 51 against, 14 did not vote and 15 abstained. 69 countries voted for the FIDE resolution, 40 against, 15 abstained and 17 did not vote.

FIDE has adopted the following decisions:

• admission of participants from Russia and Belarus to team competitions;
• in accordance with the IOC recommendations, the restoration of the use of national symbols at the youth level;
• permission to hold official FIDE events in Belarus.
