Back in September 2024, the head of SAAB supported the idea of entering into a partnership with the Ukrainian industry.

Ukraine and the Swedish company SAAB have agreed to jointly produce air defense systems, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported .
It is noted that the Build in Ukraine initiative will integrate Ukraine’s military-industrial complex into the European defense ecosystem and increase security assistance to Ukraine. It has already attracted several foreign defense companies to establish production facilities in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense shared that the following companies are already operating or are setting up production facilities in Ukraine:
- British BAE Systems (produces and services the L119 howitzer);
- German Rheinmetall (creates repair and production bases for servicing armored vehicles);
- Swedish SAAB (begins cooperation on joint production of air defense systems);
- American Northrop Grumman (is coordinating the details of joint production of ammunition).
According to the Ministry of Defense, more than 25 foreign defense companies are already at various stages of localizing production in Ukraine. In particular, companies specializing in innovative areas such as unmanned systems, cyber defense, and counter-drone technologies are entering Ukraine.
As reported by Militarnyi , back in September 2024, SAAB CEO Mikael Johansson spoke about the company’s desire to establish production in Ukraine. He supported the idea of partnering with Ukrainian industry.Read also:
The publication noted that SAAB offers its customers various air defense systems, such as the RBS 70 NG man-portable air defense system, the MSHORAD mobile short-range air defense system, and the Giraffe AMB and Giraffe 4A radars. The company also recently unveiled the new Nimbrix anti-aircraft missile, which is designed to counter small drones.
