The previous American administration also supplied weapons to Ukraine under this program.

United States President Donald Trump plans to use the presidential powers (PDA) to supply weapons to Ukraine for the first time during his second term, Reuters reports, citing informed sources .

It is noted that this indicates a new interest of the US president in the defense of Ukraine. The Trump team will determine which weapons from American stocks can be sent to Ukraine under this program.

One source said the weapons could be worth a total of about $300 million.

The authors recalled that the other day Donald Trump said that the US would send more weapons to Ukraine. Sources suggest that the new arms package may include Patriot missiles and medium-range missiles. However, a decision on the exact list of equipment has not yet been made – this should happen at a meeting on Thursday.

“So far, the Trump administration has only sent weapons authorized by former President Joe Biden, who was a staunch supporter of Kyiv. Presidential arms reduction powers allow the president to take weapons from his stockpiles to help allies in emergencies,” the material explains.

The Pentagon and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The US administration’s position on aid to Ukraine

The agency writes that Donald Trump’s position on supporting Ukraine has been inconsistent. Sometimes he criticized American spending and spoke favorably about Russia, but also at times expressed support for Kyiv and criticized the Kremlin.

Washington now has $3.86 billion left in the presidential authorization program for providing assistance to Ukraine. The last time former US President Joe Biden allocated $500 million under this program was on January 9.

It is noted that the main priorities for Ukraine are interceptor missiles for Patriot and GMLRS. The weapons can be delivered to the front line within a few days, as their stocks are located in Europe, the authors add.

  1. Trump is big in talk short on deliverables. For example Trump said that in 90 days he would complete 90 trade deals. After 90 days he has 88 more trade deals to go. I don’t trust big mouth narcissists, especially Trump. I’ll be thankful when I see it.
