According to journalists, Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will take this “peace” proposal to Moscow.

The Trump administration is prepared to recognize Crimea and other occupied Ukrainian territories as part of the Russian Federation in order to persuade the Kremlin to sign an agreement to end the war . Trump is sending his special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Moscow with this proposal, The Telegraph reports .

“It’s becoming increasingly clear that the Americans don’t care about Europe’s position. They say the Europeans can do whatever they want,” a source familiar with the matter, who wished to remain anonymous, told the publication.

The Telegraph notes that Vladimir Putin also mentioned in a public statement the day before that Washington’s legal recognition of Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions as Russian territory would be a key issue in the peace talks.

The publication also recalls that the initial version of the 28-point “peace plan,” formulated by Whitkoff after discussions with Russian officials, included a clause on America’s “de facto” recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea and two regions of Donbas.

Although negotiations between Ukrainian and American officials in Geneva succeeded in amending this document, making it less favorable to Moscow, numerous sources in The Telegraph suggest that recognition of the occupied territories as Russian remains part of the White House’s strategy.

The publication notes that Kyiv will not be forced to recognize Russia’s control over the occupied territories.
