US President Donald Trump stated that it is Ukraine, not Russia, that is preventing a potential peace agreement . In an interview with Reuters, he claimed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is allegedly ready to end the war.
“I think he’s willing to make a deal,” Trump said of Putin. “I think Ukraine is less willing to make a deal.”
Asked why US-led talks have so far failed to end Europe’s largest land conflict since World War II, Trump replied: “Zelensky.”
“We must convince President Zelenskyy to support this,” he said.
Asked why he thinks the Ukrainian president is dragging his feet on the negotiations, Trump didn’t elaborate, saying only, “I just think he’s having a hard time, you know, getting his way.”
Trump also told Reuters he knew nothing about Witkoff and Kushner’s potential upcoming trip to Moscow, which Bloomberg reported earlier on Wednesday.
Asked whether he would meet with Zelensky at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, next week, Trump said yes, but hinted that there were no plans yet.
“I would meet him if he was there,” Trump said. “I’ll be there.”
