The US President compared the situation in Ukraine to Lebanon.
US President Donald Trump said that Washington is not obligated to help Ukraine. According to him, former President Joe Biden did so because he was allegedly deceived.
During a luncheon with members of the Trump Kennedy Center board of directors, the US president emphasized that Ukraine is thousands of miles away and separated from the US by an ocean. He also compared the situation in Ukraine to Lebanon.
“They’re used to Lebanon being bombed. People live in Ukraine too – although you might think they wouldn’t live there, but they do. I don’t know if I would do that, but they live there. And in Lebanon too,” Trump said.
In addition, according to the US president, the fact that NATO countries do not want to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz is terrible. He added that the US is “working” with the Alliance on Ukraine.
“We worked with them (NATO countries – UNIAN) on Ukraine. We don’t need to work with them on Ukraine. And then they tell us that we have a minelayer around, and they don’t want to do it. I think it’s terrible,” Trump stressed.

Article 6 of the North Atlantic Treaty (1949) defines the geographical and functional scope of Article 5 (collective defense). It stipulates that an armed attack on a member includes attacks on their territory in Europe or North America, their islands in the North Atlantic north of the Tropic of Cancer, or their forces, vessels, or aircraft in these areas.
I don’t recall Iran being on the territory of Europe or North America.
