Saudi Aramco is negotiating with Ukrainian arms manufacturers directly, bypassing its own government.

The world’s largest oil company, Saudi Aramco, is in direct talks with Ukrainian manufacturers to purchase  anti-aircraft drones to protect oil fields from Shahed attacks, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing its own sources.

According to informed sources, the company is rushing to conclude a direct agreement with the Ukrainians before the Saudi Arabian government and other countries in the region, including Qatar, do so. It is reported that Aramco is in talks, in particular, with Ukrainian companies SkyFall and Wild Hornets, which produce interceptor drones.

The Saudi Arabian government is reportedly in talks with Ukraine over more than just drone purchases. Saudi officials have discussed with Ukrainian company Phantom Defense the possibility of purchasing Ukrainian electronic warfare systems to counter drones, sources say.

As The Wall Street Journal notes, late last week the Berri oil field, which is being developed by Aramco, was attacked by drones, likely of Iranian origin. And this was just one episode in a series of similar attacks on the region’s oil infrastructure since the beginning of the Iran-US war.

  1. It appears that Zelensky has more cards than TACO. The US can’t protect these oil fields, but Ukraine can.

      • The irony is that Zelensky warned TACO about needing Ukraine, but obviously the military genius dismissed Zelensky.

        • Taco never listened to smart people. Just look at the compilation of idioacy he picked for his cabinet.
