This is not the first time Washington has threatened Kyiv to stop sharing intelligence.
The US has increased pressure on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries . Washington has also threatened Kyiv with ceasing the exchange of sensitive intelligence information.
The Financial Times reports that on Friday in Miami, the Ukrainian negotiating team held a nearly eight-hour meeting with representatives of US President Donald Trump, during which they planned to discuss ways to persuade Russia to end the war. However, the newspaper reports, citing three people, that the meeting fell through.

The reason for this was the agreement between Trump and Kremlin dictator Putin to lift restrictions on Russian fuel. During this meeting, Trump advisers Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner stated that the United States could stop sharing intelligence if Kyiv did not heed Washington’s warning to cease the strikes.
Ukraine will not stop its attacks
Following the agreement between Trump and Putin, a senior Ukrainian official stated that Kyiv would continue to strike Russian refineries. He also added that Ukraine had cut short its trip, canceling a second round of talks on Saturday.
At the same time, Vitkoff stated that the Miami talks were “productive” and helped identify areas the parties could further explore. He added that the parties agreed to continue diplomatic efforts.
During this meeting, according to the publication’s sources, the Ukrainians emphasized that a unilateral ceasefire without demanding that Moscow do the same was unfair. Despite this, Vitkoff and Kushner stated that the US was prepared to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel and that Moscow intended to lift its export ban.
The publication notes that Trump has long pressured Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries. Amid these refusals, the Trump administration is becoming “increasingly frustrated” with Ukraine’s ignoring of its requests. Citing a source, the journalists note that while relations between the US and Ukraine have been improving recently, the refusal to comply with Trump’s request to stop the strikes on the refineries has impacted those relations.
Intelligence sharing has been suspended before.
Journalists recalled that the US had previously suspended intelligence sharing with Kyiv and had repeatedly threatened to do so again if Zelenskyy did not comply with Washington’s position.
Last November, the Ukrainian president stated that Trump had given him an ultimatum: either agree to his peace terms, which were favorable to Moscow, or lose US support in the war.
Also in April, Trump threatened to cut off arms supplies to Ukraine in order to force European allies to join a “coalition of the willing” to restore passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Agreement between the United States and Russia
According to analysts from the Institute for the Study of War, the United States did not demand any concessions from Russia regarding Ukraine when it allowed Moscow to supply diesel fuel to world markets.
Analysts also note that such an agreement would allow Russia to increase its resources and complicate US efforts to end the war.
