The United States opposed the IAEA Council resolution condemning attacks on the Ukrainian energy system.
The United States has joined Russia, China and Niger in opposing a resolution adopted by the UN Atomic Energy Council, Reuters reports .
It is noted that she condemned attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as a threat to nuclear security.

The resolution, adopted by the 35-nation International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors, is the seventh on Ukraine since Russia invaded the neighboring country four years ago.
Significantly, this is the first time the United States has opposed a resolution. The US statement presented to the Council before the vote said:
“While we continue to support the IAEA’s work in the country, we do not support the Council’s current consideration of an unnecessary resolution that does not contribute to achieving peace between Ukraine and Russia.”
According to diplomats present at the closed-door meeting, the IAEA board adopted the resolution with 20 votes in favor, including France, Britain, Australia, Canada, South Africa and Argentina, 10 abstentions and 4 votes against. Among those who abstained were Brazil, Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia. The wording of the resolution was not as harsh as in previous ones.
The text, seen by Reuters, says that the council “once again emphasizes that attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure designed to provide electricity to nuclear power plants, including the Zaporizhzhia NPP, pose a direct threat to nuclear safety.”
