The plant may remain shut down until the end of the month.

Following an attack by Ukrainian drones,  the Saratov Oil Refinery on the Volga River ceased primary oil refining.

Reuters reported this , citing two industry sources. The plant may remain closed until the end of the month.

The Ukrainian military reported strikes on the Saratov Oil Refinery on Tuesday, November 11. These attacks caused explosions and a fire near the facility.

The plant was also hit on Friday, November 14.

The Saratov Region Governor reported damage to civilian infrastructure. As a result, a large storage tank at the refinery caught fire. Rosneft, which controls the refinery, did not respond to a request for comment.

“Sources said the strikes could have damaged CDU-6, the plant’s only primary processing unit. Its nominal daily capacity is approximately 20,000 metric tons, or 147,000 barrels of oil,” the report said.

The authors note that the Saratov Oil Refinery processed 5.8 million tons of oil in 2024. Overall, this represents approximately 2.2% of Russia’s oil refining volume.

The plant produced 1.9 million tons of diesel fuel, 1.2 million tons of gasoline and 1 million tons of fuel oil.
