191 commentsThe Netherlands is temporarily sending two Patriot air defense systems and approximately 300 troops to Poland, the Ministry of Defense reports. They are intended to contribute to support for Ukraine and “keep the Russian threat at bay,” says caretaker Minister Ruben Brekelmans (Defense).

The air defense systems and military personnel will secure the NATO logistics center supporting Ukraine (NSATU) for six months from December 1.

In addition to Patriots, the Netherlands is deploying a NASAMS air defense system and an anti-drone system. These air defense systems are designed to counter threats from ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter jets, helicopters, and drones.

According to Brekelmans, the temporary delivery of equipment and military personnel contributes to three important goals. He means defending NATO territory, discouraging Russian aggression, and providing undiminished support to Ukraine. “This way, we keep the Russian threat as far at bay as possible,” says the caretaker minister.

NSATU operates from multiple locations, providing training for Ukrainian soldiers and support to Kyiv. Dutch support goes to an NSATU logistics center in Rzeszów, Poland, near the Ukrainian border.

From this logistics center, military equipment donated to Ukraine is transported to its destination. Air defense enables NSATU to do this safely, according to the Ministry of Defence.
