The rate of decline in profitability of the Russian oil giant is accelerating.

In January-September 2025, Rosneft ‘s net profit amounted to only 277 billion rubles ($3.3 billion), which is 70% less than the same period last year (926 billion rubles or $9.97 billion), the company’s financial statements note .

As follows from the document, the rate of decline in profitability is accelerating:

  • In the first quarter, the company earned 170 billion rubles;
  • in the second – 74 billion;
  • in the third – only 32 billion, which is 80% less than in July-September of the previous year.

The company’s other financial indicators are also declining. The Russian oil giant’s revenue for the reporting period fell by 18% to 6.28 trillion rubles, while EBITDA (earnings before tax, depreciation, and amortization) decreased by 29% to 1.64 trillion rubles.

The collapse in profits for the Russian oil giant was caused by falling prices for Russian oil and increasing discounts on Russian raw materials, as well as sanctions against the tanker fleet and a partial strengthening of the ruble.

Moreover, as reported by the Moscow Times , cash flow data was removed from Rosneft’s financial statements this time. These figures reflect cash inflows into the company’s accounts, outflows from accounts for investments and financial expenses, and changes in cash balances.
