The plant was attacked the day before by “fragments” of Ukrainian drones.

Lukoil’s NORSI oil refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region suspended operations on Wednesday after a Ukrainian drone attack . It is Russia’s fourth-largest refinery and the country’s second-largest gasoline producer, Reuters reported, citing two industry sources.

The refinery is located near the town of Kstovo, about 450 km east of Moscow. The plant can process about 15 million tons of crude oil per year, producing about 5 million tons of gasoline, more than 5 million tons of diesel fuel, 2 million tons of fuel oil and about 500,000 tons of bitumen.

According to the newspaper’s sources, the Ukrainian attack damaged the CDU-5 primary processing unit. It has a capacity of 12,000 metric tons per day, which is about a quarter of the plant’s total production capacity.

Reuters sources explained that the refinery may resume operations in the near future, using other units.

Meanwhile, the International Commodity Exchange of the St. Petersburg Region (SPIMEX) suspended trading in NORSI plant products as of yesterday.
