33-year-old National Guardsman Vladislav survived torture by Russian occupiers, who cut his throat and threw him into a pit.

The man managed to escape and crawled to Ukrainian positions for 5 days. He is currently in one of the hospitals in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where he underwent surgery.

“At first, they caught him alone, and then they took him to the basement, where there were completely different military men. There were two of them there, and these two were mocking them,” said the defender’s wife, Victoria.

The man cannot speak, but he wrote about everything that happened in a diary.

According to Vladislav, a few weeks ago his brigade lost control of a position near Pokrovsk . He tried to help his comrades, but was captured.

“What he said was that the first guys who were captured – they were from intelligence – had their eyes gouged out, their lips cut off, their male organs cut off, their ears, their noses,” said the soldier’s brother Yevhen.

Vladislav was the last of eight fighters who were thrown into a pit by Russian soldiers – they thought they were all dead, the wounded man told his relatives. After waiting for the Russian soldiers to leave, Vladislav bandaged his throat with a cloth and crawled for almost five days to Ukrainian positions.

“He says he was lucky that when they threw them into the pit, they poured more garbage on top so it wouldn’t be so visible. There was a broken bottle there, and his hands were tied, so he was able to cut the rope with that bottle,” says Victoria.

On August 17, Vladislav was taken to a medical facility in Dnipropetrovsk in extremely serious condition. He had lost a lot of blood, and his wounds had begun to fester.

“When they cut your throat, when a person is bleeding, there are few chances. He held on to the end, but, you know, what makes it different is that he was sure to the end that everything would be fine,” the hospital’s general director said.

The soldier has already undergone surgery. Doctors will do everything possible to ensure that Vladislav can speak again.

“All ENT surgeons have already made a commitment to perform such a great operation that not even the surgeon can see it, so that he can talk and breathe on his own. Put it all together, clean everything, put everything in order, and then perform the operation,” he added.

Now Vladislav is thinking about returning to the front, his brother says.

“It says that all those creatures should feel what I and those seven of our Cossack boys felt,” he added.

According to him, the man’s biggest dream right now is to see his 4-year-old daughter.
