Russia claims an An-26 military transport plane was shot down in occupied Crimea . It was allegedly attacked by a drone.

According to the Russian Telegram channel ” At the Limit ,” which is said to be close to pilots of the aggressor country, the incident occurred at the Kacha airfield in temporarily occupied Sevastopol.

“A UAV hit an An-26 on the ground; there are dead and wounded,” the statement said.

On the afternoon of December 11, Russian air monitoring stations also reported an air raid alert in the city of Kacha, near the occupiers’ airbase, Militarnye reports .

The An-26 is a Soviet military transport aircraft developed by the Antonov Design Bureau based on the An-24T. Its maiden flight took place in 1969, and it entered service in 1975.

“Production continued until 1986, during which time more than 1,400 aircraft of various modifications were produced. The aircraft has a crew of 5-6 people and a payload capacity of up to 5.5 tons. Its maximum speed reaches approximately 540 km/h, and its range is up to 2,500 km. A distinctive feature of the An-26 is its rear ramp, which allows for the loading of equipment and the airdrop of cargo,” the article states.
