The Russian diesel-electric submarine B-261 “Novorossiysk” surfaced in northwestern France.

As Censor.NET reports , this was reported by the NATO naval command , noting that a French Navy frigate was sent to monitor the submarine.

Previously, the boat had serious technical problems, which were reported by the VChK-OGPU channel on September 27. Due to damage to the fuel system, the Novorossiysk was refueling directly in the hold, which created a risk of explosion.

There were no repair parts or qualified personnel on board, and the crew was unable to fix the malfunction.

The accident caused other problems, and the accumulated fuel became explosive. Sources say the crew could only dump the fuel into the sea.

“Novorossiysk” belongs to the project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” and is part of the 4th separate submarine brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The boat was laid down in 2010, launched in 2013 and accepted into the Navy in 2014.

Russia is using submarines of this project to launch Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukraine. NATO is monitoring the situation and is ready to respond to any threats at sea.

As a reminder, two Royal Air Force aircraft flew a 12-hour mission alongside US and NATO forces to patrol the Russian border amid recent incursions by Russian drones and fighter jets into Alliance airspace.
