The large Russian tugboat “Kapitan Ushakov” sank at the pier of the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg on the morning of August 9. According to preliminary data, one of the sections was flooded, which led to a strong list, writes the Russian publication “Fontanka” .

The head of the public relations department of the Baltic Shipyard, Alexander Lebedev, told journalists that the previous evening the tugboat had tilted. The city special services and the shipyard’s duty services tried to save the vessel, but they failed to do so.

“There was a fight for the ship all night long. The workers of the Baltic Shipyard helped their colleagues stop the listing,” Lebedev shared.

The Western Interregional Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia reported on its Telegram channel that the tugboat sank during its completion work. As a result, the auxiliary machinery room of the vessel was flooded.Read also:
