A group of Russian hackers has launched a cyberattack on eight British military bases , breaking into the systems of a Ministry of Defense contractor. The attackers stole hundreds of confidential military documents and published them on the darknet.

It is reported that hackers linked to the Kremlin gained access to the files by breaking into the system of a maintenance and construction contractor used by the British Ministry of Defense. The leak of information has been called “catastrophic”.
Among the facilities attacked was RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, where F-35 fighter jets are based.
Investigation launched
Currently, according to a representative of the British Ministry of Defense, an investigation is ongoing.
“We take a decisive and proactive approach to cyber threats that may pose risks to national interests. We are actively investigating claims that information related to the Ministry of Defense was published on the darknet,” the official said.
