Russia has told international regulators that it considers civilian navigation and broadcasting satellites in Europe, which are also used to support Ukraine, to be its legitimate targets and can jam their signals on these grounds.

This is reported by the industry publication Space Intel Report, Ukrinform reports .
“The Russian Ministry of Digital Development and Communications has informed international regulators – the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Communications Regulatory Council – that European countries that use navigation and broadcasting satellites for both civilian and military purposes, including to support Ukraine, have lost the right to protest if the signals of these satellites are jammed by Russia ,” the publication said.
In March, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine, Finland, France and the Netherlands filed a complaint with the ITU regarding Russian interference in satellite communications on the continent.
17 other European Union countries and the United Kingdom have expressed their support for the initiative, which demands that Russia stop the sabotage.
In 2024, the outages targeted major European satellite providers, including Eutelsat and SES, which transmit television, radio, and air navigation signals.
One episode of Russian interference was recorded in the spring. Suddenly, Russian military propaganda appeared twice on the BabyTV channel in the Netherlands and other European countries. Last year, Eutelsat, based in France, and SES from Sweden and Luxembourg investigated these disruptions. They concluded that the interference was coming from temporarily occupied Crimea and the Kaliningrad region (Russia).
It was previously reported that Denmark will provide Ukraine with satellite communications services necessary for defense operations through the European Defense Agency.
In April, it became known that Germany has been financing Ukraine’s access to the satellite Internet network of the French company Eutelsat for some time, which is an alternative to the Starlink terminals of the company of American billionaire Elon Musk.
It was previously reported that Poland would seek alternatives to the Starlink satellite network for Ukraine if billionaire Elon Musk’s American company SpaceX turns out to be an unreliable supplier.
