The intelligence officers received full access to all information systems of the Gazprom corporation.

A large-scale cyber operation by the Main Intelligence Directorate to destroy the information system of the Russian Gazprom could complicate the transportation and gas supply of entire regions of the Russian Federation and reduce the monopoly’s contributions to the Russian budget, UNIAN sources in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense report.

According to our interlocutor, as a result of the cyber operation, the corporation’s records of contracts, schedules, and tariffs were destroyed, including data on who and how much gas/oil should be supplied, data on payments, taxes, Gazprom’s financial balances, information on the corporation’s licenses and legal agreements.

In addition, data from the SCADA and GIS systems that manage pressure, flow, gas and oil balances, as well as data on Gazprom’s wells and networks, was destroyed.

According to a source in the State Security Service, as a result of the attack, cyber specialists gained full access to all information systems of the Gazprom corporation, which made it possible to copy hundreds of terabytes of data.

“Using unique software, all data from the Gazprom corporation’s information system stored on physical servers and cloud platforms, including backup copies, was deleted,” our interlocutor adds.

The UNIAN source believes that the attack could lead to a reduction in budget revenues from the gas monopoly, which is one of the sources of financing Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. “We can talk about the impossibility of concluding new contracts by the state corporation Gazprom, emergency operation of the Gazprom corporation’s systems and the complication of transportation and gas supply to entire regions of the Russian Federation, default on obligations, a significant drop in the value of Gazprom’s shares, undermining the stability of banks lending to Gazprom, and many other negative consequences for the aggressor country,” our interlocutor notes.

  1. Every little bit helps. Gazprom is already in dire straits, this won’t help their situation one bit.

  2. Could this be one reason that Solavacian dirt bag finally agreed to the sanctions, but knew Gazprom was scewed and thats why he defered his demand for Rus gas?
