In Poland, the SBU, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, together with Polish law enforcement agencies, conducted a multi-stage international special operation on EU territory, during which they detained Kyrylo Molchanov, a “political expert” from the pool of Viktor Medvedchuk, a suspect in treason.
As reported by the SBU press service , for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, a Russian agent who worked against our state in the information sphere was handed over to Ukraine at the request of the SBU.
“He was initially detained in Poland, and now he is in one of the Kyiv pre-trial detention centers,” the report says.
It is noted that the person involved in the case is a “political expert” from the media pool of traitor Medvedchuk. According to the investigation, the attacker was recruited and worked simultaneously for two Russian special services: the FSB and foreign intelligence. In particular, on their instructions, he was engaged in discrediting Ukraine in the international arena, and also destabilized the internal situation in Ukraine’s partner countries.
It is said that in the first year of the large-scale war, the person involved left for the Russian Federation, where he became one of the key ideologists of the Kremlin media projects “Drugaya Ukraina” and “Voice of Europe”. He was also a frequent guest on the talk show of the Russian propagandist Vladimir Solovyov. According to the SBU, in 2023 alone, he participated in the live broadcasts of this Kremlin propagandist 35 times, during which he justified the Russian invasion and spread fakes about the situation in our country. The Ukrainian special service said:
“In addition, he organized street protests in the EU in the interests of the Kremlin, where he called for the curtailment of international support for Ukraine. Another important area of the defendant’s subversive activities was public calls for the preparation of commissioned terrorist attacks in Ukraine. For this, the pseudo-political scientist used his Telegram channel, on which he regularly “reposted” chatbots of Russian special services that collect intelligence about the Defense Forces.”
Currently, the detainee has been informed of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 436-2 and Part 6 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants and collaborative activities).
The press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office clarified that the pro-Kremlin political scientist was deported from the Republic of Poland the day before for violating the rules of residence.
“Law enforcement officers have established his whereabouts and detained him. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for him is currently being resolved,” the prosecutor’s office emphasized.
Law enforcement agencies told UNIAN that the arrest was of Kyrylo Molchan.
The event is currently being hotly discussed on social media, where it is also reported that Kirill Molchanov, who fled to the Russian Federation in 2022 and supported the war, has been caught. Many initially believed that the message was an April Fool’s joke.

Molchanov’s detention is also reported by Russian propagandists, who call him a “human rights activist and political scientist” who was arrested in Poland and deported to Kyiv. It is said that Molchanov was engaged in systematic “informing” MEPs and Bundestag deputies about “facts of human rights violations”, spoke publicly on these topics on various media broadcasts, and ran a channel on YouTube and other social networks as a blogger.
“In gratitude for his human rights activities, the Bundestag members invited Kyrylo to Berlin to present him with an award and a grant for his systematic work in the field of human rights protection…”, wrote Dmytro Vasiliets on the Telegram channel.
He notes that Molchanov’s associates are currently looking for lawyers.

The figurehead is part of Putin’s media pool and is one of the main mouthpieces of Kremlin propaganda.
