The Ukrainian missile and drone attack on the port of Novorossiysk on Wednesday, August 12, was surprisingly successful. Not only port facilities were hit, but also numerous warships of the aggressor. This is reported by the Ukrainian OSINT projects  Exilenova+ and “Cyberboroshno” .

“One of the most successful attacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on one of the most protected cities in Russia,” analysts say.

According to available data, the OSINTERs found out that grain and fuel oil terminals were hit in Novorossiysk that night. Satellite images show numerous damage to grain storage facilities and transport infrastructure, including elevators.

It is noted that the NKHP terminal, which provides about 12% of Russia’s grain exports, was hit. The other two terminals – NZT (12%) and KSK (14%) – survived, according to satellite images.

However, the results of the strike on the Russian Navy base in Novorossiysk turned out to be much more interesting. According to the Osinters, the following ships and vessels were probably hit:

  • Project 11356P frigate “Admiral Makarov” – damage in the area of the “Caliber” missile launchers, as well as the aft superstructure with radar systems;
  • Project 11356P frigate “Admiral Essen” – damage in the area of the “Caliber” launchers;
  • minesweeper project 266M;
  • research vessel of project 20360 OS “Viktor Cherokov”;
  • unidentified patrol ship of project 22160;
  • Project 864 reconnaissance ship “Priazovye” – possible damage to the stern;
  • unidentified dry cargo ship.

A hit on coastal infrastructure of the 4th submarine brigade was also recorded.

In addition, the Sheskharis oil export terminal in Novorossiysk was hit during the attack that night. According to analysts, the main berths of the terminal, which serve large Aframax and Suezmax tankers, were hit.

An unidentified Aframax tanker was likely hit. Satellite imagery shows traces of burning, a significant amount of firefighting foam, and oil slicks in the water.
