Gazprom reported a state of emergency due to Ukrainian drones.

The Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, the largest facility of its kind in the world, has suspended gas imports from Kazakhstan following a Ukrainian drone attack, according to the Kazakh Energy Ministry, according to Reuters .

Earlier, Orenburg Region Governor Yevgeny Solntsev stated that the plant was partially damaged, and the impact also caused a fire in the plant’s workshop. The fire was subsequently extinguished.

“Ukraine, which confirmed it struck a gas processing plant in the Orenburg region and an oil refinery in the Samara region, has stepped up attacks on Russian oil refineries and other energy facilities since August in an attempt to disrupt gasoline supplies and deprive Moscow of funding,” Reuters noted.

According to Ukrainian military officials, explosions and a fire occurred at the facility.

It is known that this is the first recorded strike on the plant, which is part of the Orenburg Gas Chemical Complex.

“The facility, operated by Gazprom, has an annual processing capacity of 45 billion cubic meters and processes gas condensate from both the Orenburg oil and gas field and Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field,” the report added.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy stated that Gazprom had notified it of the emergency, but had not yet provided detailed information on the extent of the damage or the timeframe for restoring full operations.

According to Russian authorities, no one was injured in the attack.

For his part, Vyacheslav Fedorishev, Governor of Russia’s Samara Region, stated that the air defense system was operational overnight due to Ukrainian drones, while the local airport and mobile internet were temporarily down.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the country’s air defense forces shot down 45 Ukrainian UAVs overnight, including 12 over the Samara region, 11 over the Saratov region, and one over the Orenburg region.
