BREAKING NEWS: Kremlin shifts stance on Ukraine talks as Peskov says reality has changed

The Kremlin has abruptly announced a shift in its negotiating stance on Ukraine: until recently Moscow issued ultimatums; now it has backed away from its previous line.

Russian authorities unexpectedly said they have changed their approach to talks over the war in Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, acknowledged that the terms Moscow once pushed no longer match the current situation.

In effect, the Kremlin publicly admitted for the first time that the conditions Russia spent years trying to force on Kyiv no longer work.

Peskov was answering a question from the state news agency TASS about whether Moscow remains committed to the 2022 Istanbul understandings or “there are changes.” “The entire reality has changed,” the Kremlin spokesman said.

The statement stands in stark contrast to the Kremlin’s earlier demands. Previously, Moscow — and Putin personally – repeatedly insisted that any talks must be based solely on those agreements.

“Until recently Moscow issued ultimatums; now the Kremlin has abandoned its previous line,” observers note.

For years, Russian officials insisted the Istanbul understandings should be the foundation of a peace deal. The Kremlin claimed Ukraine was obliged to return to those terms and that Kyiv’s position would only worsen over time.

Now, the Russian side is effectively conceding that the old line no longer matches reality.

Amid a lack of major breakthroughs at the front and mounting pressure on Russia’s economy, Moscow is gradually softening its tone. Ukrainian strikes on military targets inside Russia, logistical problems and growing economic strains are making the Kremlin’s earlier ultimatums increasingly unrealistic.

In essence, Peskov’s statement amounts to an indirect acknowledgment that Russia can no longer dictate terms as confidently as it once tried to.

  1. REALITY HAS CHANGED: RUSSIA IS LOOSING THE WAR, THE ECONOMY IS DOWN THE RIVER, AND INTERNET IS BANNED IN RUSSIA.

  2. Whatever happened to the “reality on the ground” approach by mafia land? That’s right, mafia land is being dismantled by Ukraine and Ukraine are the only ones gaining ground.

  3. I have a reality for Peskov…HELL and I’m sure Lucifer is anxiously awaiting his arrival. Now that Peskov has changed his tune I wonder if he now becomes a candidate for a long walk off a short balcony.
