Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Hungary will not give up Russian energy resources because Russia guarantees the security of their country.
The Hungarian minister said this in the podcast Harcosok órája, Censor.NET reports .
Orban says that gas and oil come to Hungary from Russia, but if that stops, Budapest will have to look elsewhere for energy.
“Any other source of supply is less reliable than the Russian one fixed by long-term contracts. Thus, Russia guarantees the security of Hungary,” the Hungarian Prime Minister said .
Orban also mentioned the economic aspect.
According to him, Russian energy sources are cheaper than alternative options, and refusing them will automatically lead to the need to raise prices for the Hungarian population.
“Why should Hungarian families pay more for energy? This is not only a question of economics, but also of social justice,” the minister says.
He emphasized that Hungary is a sovereign state and makes its own decisions, despite external pressure.
The Prime Minister of Hungary said that energy issues are closely linked to the country’s security.
Orban added that any changes in energy supplies affect not only the country’s economy, but also its defense capabilities.
