Progress in implementing this project would be a diplomatic success for Putin.
Russian gas giant Gazprom said it had signed an agreement to build the long-awaited Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline to China via Mongolia, and will expand supplies along other routes.

Bloomberg reports that Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said the company will be able to supply up to 50 billion cubic meters per year through the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline for 30 years. According to him, the price of fuel will be lower than for customers in Europe.
Discussions on the megaproject have dragged on for years. Russia pushed it to offset the reduction in supplies to Europe after its invasion of Ukraine, while China is showing some caution. Growth in gas demand is slowing, and Beijing fears dependence on a single supplier.
Progress in implementing this project would be a diplomatic success for Vladimir Putin and a powerful signal of strong ties with China amid the war against Ukraine and Western sanctions.
“The project to build the Power of Siberia 2 and the Soyuz-Vostok gas pipeline, a transit connection through Mongolia, and a gas transportation facility in China will become the largest, most large-scale and capital-intensive gas project in the world,” Russian news agencies quoted Miller as saying.
Gazprom has also reportedly agreed to increase supplies to China via the current Power of Siberia route by another 6 billion cubic meters per year, up from its current annual capacity of 38 billion cubic meters.
According to reports, the volume of supplies by the future Far East Pipeline to China, scheduled to be launched in 2027, will also exceed the originally planned 10 billion cubic meters per year.
Power of Siberia-2 – latest news
Gazprom supplies gas to China directly through the Power of Siberia pipeline and planned to gradually increase the volume to 38 billion cubic meters.
On August 20, 2024, the Power of Siberia-2 gas pipeline project was temporarily suspended . Mongolia, through whose territory the pipeline to China is to pass, did not include it in its national development plan until 2028.

Big victory for Putin. Billions and billions of dollars extra in the pocket.
This is a drop in the ocean compared to the 155 billion cubic meters that putler lost when he invaded Ukraine. This will never be replaced by the chinks, and they will be dictating the price.
“…while China is showing some caution. Growth in gas demand is slowing, and Beijing fears dependence on a single supplier.”
The devil is in the detail. The amount of gas won’t be as much as the cockroaches are hoping. The price will also be nothing to cheer about for the roaches.
Even china has seen the need to move away from fossil fuels, now being the top renewable energy producer in the world. So, gas, even cheap gas, will not play much of a role in the future.
