Ukrainian citizens evacuated from Oleshki and the surrounding community have already crossed the border of Ukraine into Chernihiv region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced .
According to him, a humanitarian operation to rescue people took place in the occupied city in the Kherson region.
“Silence was established in the Kherson direction, and at this time the roads to Oleshki were demined, humanitarian cargo was delivered. We expect that humanitarian access to Oleshki will remain,” he noted.
The President assured that the evacuees would be provided with the necessary assistance, and emphasized that government structures and all involved regional and local authorities must work effectively and help our people adapt.
“I thank the American side and the First Lady of America, Melania Trump, for their mediation. I am proud of our Ukrainian Defense Forces, who defend our state and honorably guaranteed security conditions for the humanitarian operation,” Zelenskyy said.
He also thanked the Ombudsman of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets and his team for the implementation of the mission, as well as journalists, political and public leaders, and those “who drew global attention to the issue of Oleshki and the real humanitarian catastrophe in the territory of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia.”
“When there is world attention, people are saved. Further de-escalation steps and a real approach to peace are also needed,” the President of Ukraine said.
