The defense forces struck a number of important enemy targets in Novorossiysk , including the Russian Black Sea Fleet frigate Admiral Essen, which had already come under attack from the Ukrainian military.

This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.  

“On the night of September 9, operators of the Department of Active Operations of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as part of a joint deepstrike operation with other components of the State Defense Forces, struck the infrastructure of the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, as well as the enemy frigate “Admiral Essen” of project 11356,” the report says.

According to intelligence, a fire broke out on the ship’s deck superstructure as a result of the successful hits.

It is noted that the Admiral Essen is a carrier of sea-based cruise missiles of the Caliber type, which Russia constantly uses for terrorist attacks on the civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.

 The GUR recalled that in August 2026, the GUR and the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Russian missile carriers “Admiral Essen” and “Admiral Makarov”, as well as the patrol ship “Vasily Bykov”.

Attack on Novorossiysk on September 9

As a reminder, the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert (Madyar) Brovdi, reported today that on the night of September 9, a complex strike by the Defense Forces hit Russian naval vessels, including missile carriers, in Novorossiysk. He also noted that a Su-33 carrier-based fighter and an Mi-8 helicopter were destroyed in Anapa, as well as 2 radar complexes, namely the “Kasta 2E2” and the 92N6 radar from the S-300/400 air defense system in the Gelendzhik area.

As UNIAN reported, on the night of August 12, as a result of a joint operation by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the port of Novorossiysk (Russia), ships and other important Russian targets were hit . In particular, the frigates “Admiral Essen” and “Admiral Makarov”, which are carriers of sea-based cruise missiles of the “Caliber” type, the patrol ship “Vasily Bykov” and the infrastructure of the “Grushovaya” oil depot, the “Sheskharis” oil terminal and the 30N6E radar from the S-300 complex were hit.
