Britain has announced its intention to develop a new powerful ballistic missile for Ukraine to destroy Russian targets deep behind enemy lines, The Sun reports .

The missiles in question are Nightfall missiles, which are said to be capable of carrying 200-kilogram warheads and have a range of 310 miles, or almost 500 km, “enough to hit Moscow from the battlefield.”

“The UK is seeking firms to design, develop and supply the first three test-launch rockets under a £9 million contract,” the statement said.

Journalists write that the intention to manufacture missiles for Ukraine was confirmed by Defense Secretary John Geely, who was in Kyiv on Thursday when Russia carried out an aerial missile and drone attack.Read also:

British Nightfall missiles for Ukraine

As UNIAN previously reported, Gilley said back in early September 2025 that the UK could transfer new Nightfall ballistic missiles to Ukraine after their development was completed.

Experts hypothesized that the missile would follow a quasi-ballistic trajectory, maneuvering during the terminal phase of flight. This would ensure high accuracy with a circular error of no more than 5 meters.

It was noted that the launcher must accommodate at least two missiles and ensure “safe launch under high tactical threat conditions” of the entire ammunition load within 15 minutes after stopping in the firing position.

The cost of one missile will likely be no more than $675,000, not including the price of warheads, launchers, and development costs.
