A relaxation of sanctions will also be proposed.

During the talks in Alaska , US President Donald Trump will likely try to offer Vladimir Putin access to valuable natural resources and sanctions relief in exchange for ending the war in Ukraine, the British publication The Telegraph reports, citing unnamed sources.

It is noted that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is one of those who advise Trump ahead of his meeting with Putin. In particular, Bessent is allegedly studying economic compromises that the US can make with Russia in order to speed up the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement.

So, Trump will bring to Alaska “a number of opportunities to make money” that he will offer to Putin. And among them will be “opening Moscow’s access to Alaska’s natural resources.” However, the text goes on to note that this refers to resources in the Bering Strait, which separates Chukotka from Alaska. It is estimated that there may be significant undiscovered oil and gas reserves there. Perhaps we are talking about 13% of the world’s oil reserves.

The US will also allegedly offer Russia “access to rare earth minerals in Ukrainian territories currently occupied by Russia.” According to The Telegraph, Ukraine owns 10% of the world’s lithium reserves, which are used in the production of modern batteries. The two largest lithium deposits are located in territories controlled by Russia.

“There are a number of incentives, one of which could be a potential minerals/rare earths deal,” a source familiar with the proposals told The Telegraph.

Other incentives Trump reportedly plans to offer Putin include lifting a ban on parts and equipment needed to service passenger jets operated by Russian airlines.

“Lifting sanctions on Russian planes could be a boon for US manufacturer Boeing. With a fleet of more than 700 aircraft dominated by Airbus and Boeing, Russian airlines could turn to US suppliers for critical parts and maintenance,” The Telegraph writes.

UK government sources told The Telegraph that such incentives could be acceptable to Europe, provided Putin was not rewarded for the invasion.

As for the issue of the occupied Ukrainian territories, according to The Telegraph, a scenario similar to Israel’s occupation of the West Bank is supposedly being considered. This means that Russia would have military and economic control over the occupied territories without international recognition of the occupier’s sovereignty over them. This idea was allegedly discussed during the visit to Moscow of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
