The eruption of Eurasia’s highest active volcano, Klyuchevskaya Sopka, has begun in Kamchatka, Russia, following a massive earthquake on the night of July 30.

This was reported by the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences and a number of Russian media outlets, Censor.NET reports .

Photos show hot lava flowing down the volcano’s western slope. Glowing and explosions are seen above the crater.

The volcano is located 30 km from the nearest settlement.

The eruption of the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano has begun in Kamchatka

On the afternoon of July 30, the volcano, according to Russian geophysicists, threw out a three-kilometer cloud of ash, followed by lava.

Klyuchevskaya Sopka had already shown signs of activation before, but after the earthquake, the processes in the volcano intensified significantly – large-scale lava eruptions began.

Earlier it was reported that an earthquake occurred in Kamchatka, Russia . The magnitude was 8.7 – the strongest in the region since 1952.

The earthquake also triggered a tsunami across the Pacific region, prompting mass evacuations in many countries. There were no reports of deaths or major damage.
