The Russian-American plan to end the war in Ukraine calls for a reduction in the Ukrainian army and Kyiv’s abandonment of the Donbas region, according to Western media reports citing informed sources.
“The United States has signaled to President Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukraine must accept a U.S.-drafted framework agreement to end the war with Russia, which requires Kyiv to give up territory and some weapons,” Reuters reports , citing two unnamed sources.
According to Reuters, the proposals include, among other things, a reduction in the size of Ukraine’s armed forces. Sources claim that “Washington” (without specifying who in Washington) wants Kyiv to accept these proposals.
This information is confirmed by Financial Times journalist Christopher Miller.
“I can confirm that Dmitriev-Vitkoff, through Umerov, is offering the Ukrainians a hasty proposal from the US and Russia. This would mean Ukraine’s capitulation, and people familiar with the situation tell me that these are merely the Kremlin’s maximalist demands,” he wrote on social media .
According to Miller, the proposal includes, in particular:
- halving the size of the Ukrainian army;
- renunciation of certain types of weapons;
- renunciation of Donbass.
