The Russian drone attack continues in Kyiv . One of the drones hit the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on Volodymyrska Street.

Videos posted on social media show the building’s roof and top floor ablaze. Thick black smoke billows into the sky. Blazing flames are also visible. Judging by the video, people are standing near the third-floor windows, apparently trapped inside the building by the fire.

The German Embassy in Ukraine is located nearby on Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration , a drone struck a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the capital. Information on casualties is currently being clarified. Relevant services are being dispatched to the scene.

update: As it became known at 14:14 from the KGVA report , unfortunately, the information about the death of a woman as a result of an enemy attack in the Shevchenkivskyi district was confirmed.

An aide to former National Security and Defense Council Secretary Volodymyr Horbulin was killed as a result of a Russian strike on the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The academy’s press service confirmed this information to Ukrinform.

“A woman was killed; she was Horbulin’s aide. Horbulin himself is alive. We have also lost contact with another colleague whose office was hit. The fire is still being extinguished there,” the press service said.

At the same time, the press service did not confirm reports that two NASU academicians had been killed.

Updated at 2:40 PM. As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on Telegram , the rescue operation at the National Academy of Sciences building is ongoing. Specifically, firefighting and a search for people who may have been inside are underway. All emergency services are involved.

“Today, a pharmaceutical company and gas stations were attacked in Kyiv, a business center in Dnipro, and civilian facilities, businesses, and communications facilities in other cities and regions. Unfortunately, there are casualties… My condolences to the families and friends,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the president, such attacks by Russia will certainly be met with a response.

“And each of Ukraine’s partners must see in this terror, in these attacks, that supporting Ukraine means supporting people’s lives, supporting the fact that terror must never, anywhere, be normalized. Russia must answer for all of this and suffer the real consequences,” Zelenskyy added.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko , in addition to the woman who died in the historic center of Kyiv, three other people are known to have been injured in the uninhabited building hit by an enemy drone.

“They were hospitalized by doctors,” Klitschko noted.
