Explosions were heard in the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation on the night of September 14. Drones attacked the Kirish oil refinery: eyewitnesses observed a fire on the territory of the enterprise.

This refinery is among the top 5 in Russia in terms of oil processing. A video of the attack has appeared online, the regional governor confirmed the “fire” on the territory of the plant, and the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdy (“Magyar”), revealed some details of the damage.

Local authorities began warning residents of the Leningrad region about the “danger of UAVs” at around 3 a.m. And at around 3:30 a.m., the regional governor began reporting about “downed” drones in the Kirish district of the region.

The Russians “shot them down” in the usual and reliable way: with the help of another refinery. Towards morning, videos began to appear on the Internet, recording not only attempts by Russian air defense to shoot down drones flying in the sky, but also a fire at the local “city-forming enterprise” – the Kirishnefteorgsintez plant.

“Drones struck the Kiriyishsky oil refinery in the Leningrad region. Eyewitnesses see a strong fire there,” the Russian Cheka-OGPU Telegram channel wrote at 04:54 am.

According to OSINT researchers who analyzed the first footage of the fire at Kirishnefteorgsintez, the blow could have been to the ELOU AVT-6 primary oil distillation unit. However, the Exilenova+ Telegram channel emphasizes that it will be possible to assess the real scale of the damage only after satellite images appear.

Meanwhile, the governor of the Leningrad region announced at 05:18 that “3 UAVs were destroyed in the Kirishi region .” He also acknowledged the fact of a fire at the local refinery , attributing it to “the fall of drone debris,” and hastened to assure that “the fire in the territory has been eliminated.”

Some time later, the strike on the aforementioned refinery was confirmed by the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces. According to Robert Brody, the strike was carried out in cooperation with the Special Operations Forces.

The Kirishnefteorgsintez plant attacked last night is, according to open sources, the largest oil refining plant in Russia in terms of the amount of fuel produced. In terms of processing volume (20 million tons per year), the plant is among the five largest in the Russian Federation.

“Kirishinefteorgsintez” produces all types of fuels, as well as products for the petrochemical and paint and varnish industries, for household chemicals enterprises and the construction industry.
