Sweden’s former prime minister and foreign minister Carl Bildt has written on X that Donald Trump’s tariff game is a “crystal clear” crime against the EU and the US.
“The reaction must be equally clear. Playing it soft is hardly an option,” writes Bildt.
The tariffs will be 10 percent and will apply from February 1, according to Trump – who is threatening to then raise them to 25 percent on June 1 if the US is not allowed to take over Greenland.
In addition to Sweden, the threat also applies to Denmark, Norway, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.
The US-European trade agreement that was concluded this summer is awaiting approval by the European Parliament.
Bildt writes that Trump’s actions “will in all likelihood” cause the agreement to collapse.
“The confrontation is starting to heat up.”

Surely Trump wants to drive Scandinavia into the arms of the EU. This will fail, but the US will suffer until Adolf Trump is removed from power.
Do we still have a Congress?
Republicans critical: ‘We sound too much like Putin’
Some Republican members of Congress are speaking out openly against Trump’s plans. “Greenland is our ally and it is foolish policy to threaten an ally,” writes Representative Don Bacon on X . “Especially when we could already be adding bases if we wanted to. It makes us sound too much like Putin and that’s wrong.”
Republican Senator Thom Tillis also calls Trump’s decision “bad for America, bad for American businesses and bad for American allies. It’s great for Xi and Putin and other adversaries who want to see NATO divided.”
I know that there are numerous Congressmen and women who oppose Taco and/or his measures, but Congress as a whole is useless.
No.
The midterms can’t come soon enough!
Impeachment can’t come soon enough.
You bet.
The trade agreement the US and the EU reached last summer to avert their impending trade war will not be ratified for the time being, according to Manfred Weber, leader of the largest and most crucial group in the European Parliament.
