The construction of the bridge in Zaporozhye began in 2004, but was stopped due to lack of funding.president.gov.ua

On the Day of the Unity of Ukraine, January 22, in Zaporozhye, both banks of the Dnieper were united by a cable-stayed bridge built during the implementation of the Great Construction program. The movement of the riding part of the bridge was opened by the initiator of the program, President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The construction of the bridge in Zaporozhye began in 2004, but due to lack of funding it was stopped, and for a long time the bridge became one of the most iconic long-term construction projects in Ukraine.

Work resumed in 2020, when the bridge was included in the Big Construction program. At the same time, in December, traffic was already opened on the first passage of the beam bridge, which connected the Baburka area with the island of Khortytsya.

The movement along the upper part of the main structure of the entire bridge complex – the cable-stayed bridge, opened by Volodymyr Zelensky on the Day of Unity, connected Khortitsa and the center of Zaporozhye.

“We see living proof that together we can do everything, together we are stronger, together we can do much better, together we can do more. And builders from different regions of our state and not only, working at a height of 30-35 meters in 24 /7, plus 40 and minus 20, can do something very important for people, something really special,” Zelensky stressed.president.gov.ua

The Zaporozhye bridge is an ensemble of a large number of complex engineering structures. This is a 9-kilometer highway, which includes, in addition to the beam and cable-stayed bridges, also 6 interchanges and 26 artificial structures.

Recall that in total, during the implementation of Volodymyr Zelensky’s “Big Construction” program in Ukraine, 560 bridges have already been built and repaired , and in the next two years the number of renovated and new bridges should increase by another 810.
