WASHINGTON – US President Joe Biden met Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of Alexei Navalny, who died last week, and her daughter in San Francisco on Thursday. Biden expressed his condolences, according to a statement.

Biden also agreed that new sanctions will be imposed on Russia on Friday for Navalny’s death. Biden and other Western leaders hold the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin responsible for the death of the Russian opposition leader.
Navalny’s mother Lyudmila Navalnaya reported seeing his body on Thursday after days of waiting. According to Navalny’s mother, Russian authorities want his body to be buried quietly. Navalny’s team disputes authorities’ claims that he died of natural causes.
