The White House approved a plan to provide assistance to Americans who may try to evacuate Ukraine in the event of a Russian invasion.

This is reported by the American publications CNN and WSJ .

According to media reports, the plan is for troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to begin establishing processing zones and temporary shelters in Poland near the border with Ukraine , where Americans fleeing Ukraine could seek help during transit.

According to one of the representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the facilities have not yet been erected, but they will begin to be created as more American troops arrive in Poland.

Earlier, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters that the 82nd Airborne was sent to Poland primarily because “they are able to move quickly and perform a range of missions in a variety of contingencies.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki late last month, when asked under what circumstances the US would evacuate US citizens and diplomats from Ukraine, said:

“There is no intention to leave or evacuate using the military. So we are asking American citizens to leave now. There is no precedent other than Afghanistan for this to work.”

As UNIAN reported earlier, the US State Department  authorized the voluntary departure of its employees  and ordered the departure of the relevant members of their families from the embassy in Kiev due to the threat of Russian military action.

The vast majority of employees of  the US Embassy  in Kiev remained in the Ukrainian capital and continue to work despite the possibility of leaving the country.

In the US, a TV presenter  advised Ukrainians to evacuate  the country. And after that, the US Embassy  advised the Americans to leave Ukraine  because of an “unforeseen situation.”

  1. That is an absolute disgrace. America signaling that it expects an additional invasion and is not prepared to take pro-active measures now.
Ukraine should request or even beg Poland and Britain to provide them with air support as a bare minimum, but ideally ground troops, including special forces.

  2. Denmark will continue to support Ukraine, even if Washington abandons us. We love the ukrainian people, love their bravery, will live and die with them. Principles cannot be compromised. Slava Ukrayiny!
