Russia will not win the war, the American president emphasized.
The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, announced a new $2.4 billion aid package for Ukraine and informed the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about two important elements that are critical to ending the war started by Russia.
According to the correspondent of UNIAN, Biden said this at the beginning of the meeting with Zelensky in the White House, which was broadcast live. The US president noted that he and his Ukrainian colleague are going to discuss how Ukraine will “win out of this conflict.” In this regard, Biden named two key elements to strengthen Ukraine in possible future negotiations.
“First of all, now we must strengthen Ukraine’s position on the battlefield,” Biden emphasized.
He added that for this reason, he is happy to announce a new package of security assistance worth $2.4 billion for Ukraine today.
In addition, Biden instructed the Pentagon to distribute all remaining approved funding for the security of Ukraine by the end of his term as president, namely by January 20, 2020. This will strengthen Ukraine’s position in future negotiations, Biden said.
“Secondly, we look to the future in order to help Ukraine achieve success in the long term,” the US president noted.
He recalled that at the NATO summit in Washington, it was said about the need to support Ukraine’s path to membership in the Alliance and the European Union and about supporting the continuation of reforms in Ukraine to fight corruption and strengthen democracy.
The American leader also said that it is necessary to provide Ukraine with sufficient capabilities so that it has the opportunity to repel future Russian aggression. Biden emphasized that the two elements he named are critical to how the war ends.
“Russia will not win the war. Russia will not win. Ukraine will win and we will continue to stand by your side every step of the way,” Biden said.
The US president noted that Zelensky shared a plan on how to win the war.
In turn, the head of the Ukrainian state noted that it is very important that “we share the same vision for Ukraine’s secure future in the EU and NATO.” He added that Ukraine is implementing unprecedented reforms along this path.
Zelensky said that the $7.9 billion support package announced today by the United States would be a big help. In addition, according to the President of Ukraine, he informed about the Victory Plan at a meeting with his American colleague.
“Today we are preparing to discuss the details to strengthen the plan,” Zelenskyy said and added that the teams of both countries will work to ensure the implementation of future steps.
