US President Joe Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has appealed to US President-elect Donald Trump to continue military support for Ukraine .
According to Politico , Sullivan, in an interview on CNN, urged Trump to continue the pressure on Russia that President Joe Biden has been putting on President Vladimir Putin’s regime since the start of the war in Ukraine.
As Sullivan stated, to achieve a fair agreement between Russia and Ukraine, “leverages of pressure are needed.”
“And this lever is constant military support for Ukraine,” he emphasized.
He also noted that the weakening of adversaries such as Russia and Iran could open up opportunities for Trump to achieve diplomatic breakthroughs, especially given Trump’s propensity for unpredictable moves.
“He’s willing to do unexpected things,” Sullivan said of Trump.
He also emphasized that, in his opinion, the Biden administration leaves Trump in a very strong position on the global level.
“I think we’re conveying a very strong position for the United States in terms of our national power… America’s competitors and adversaries are weaker and under more pressure than they were before,” he said.
