Biden Administration Plans to Allocate Remaining Security Aid to Ukraine Before Trump’s Inauguration – Politico

The administration of US President Joe Biden is planning to urgently send more than $6 billion in security aid to Ukraine to fight the invasion of the Russian Federation. The White House intends to transfer funds to Kyiv before the inauguration of
Donald Trump, who previously won the presidential election.

Politico writes about this with reference to two American officials. According to preliminary data, the inauguration of the newly elected President of the United States is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025.

As noted, the plan described by the journalists’ interlocutors is the only one the White House has to continue sending weapons to Ukraine. However, many difficulties arise.

The thing is, ammunition and equipment are usually sent to Ukraine within months of the aid package being announced, so anything that will be sent in the coming weeks will most likely not be fully delivered before Trump’s inauguration. The new president can stop the supply before the weapons are in place.

In addition, the problem is that the US can only ship equipment that is already in stock. New supplies depend on how quickly new artillery shells and weapons can be produced or ordered to replace them.

“We ship every month what industry can produce, but the problem is that we can only ship weapons as they are produced. The administration could go into stockpiles and ship equipment faster, but it is not clear whether the Pentagon will want to do that, because it would affect his own readiness,” said Mark Kanchian, a former Defense Department budget official who now works at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Pentagon representative Lt. Col. Charlie Dietz emphasized that the agency “is ready to provide authorized assistance to support Ukraine.”

“We expect to receive additional aid in the coming weeks,” the official said.

As you know, Trump and his candidate for the position of vice president of the United States, JD Vance, criticized the Biden administration for transferring billions of military aid to Ukraine. It is expected that after becoming president, Trump will significantly reduce aid to Kyiv to fight the invasion of the Russian Federation.

“The first thing he’ll do is cut aid to Ukraine. I would expect him to make a big show out of it. He’ll say ‘promise fulfilled’ and stop it, I’m sure of it,” said Jim Townsend, a former senior Pentagon official on NATO and Europe during the Obama administration.

At the same time, in the Senate, as before, there is significant support of the Republicans regarding the continuation of aid to Ukraine. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi), the likely next chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, sent a letter to Biden last month urging him to speed up supplies of equipment to Ukraine and increase U.S. production before his term expires to quickly strengthen Ukraine.

We will remind: the leader of the Republican Party, Donald Trump, previously won the US presidential election . He edged out Democratic Party representative and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris with the necessary 270 electoral votes.

The inauguration of the newly elected US president is tentatively scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025 . The Republican has already officially announced his victory in the election, naming himself the 47th president of the United States and promising to lead the country into a new era of prosperity.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to expert Oleksandr Krayev, speaking of the elections in the USA from the point of view of Ukrainian interests, it is not necessary to evaluate the candidates in the “best” or “worst” categories – it is more important to determine which of them will be less risky.

  1. The Biden administration is screwing everything up that’s screwable.
We have THOUSANDS of armored vehicles, including at least 3700 M-1s, in storage, many of which could be sent to Ukraine forthwith. We also have thousands of artillery pieces, MLRS, and mortars, all just sitting around our desert depots. Even if some of the stuff is not up to par, I’m sure the Ukrainians would still love to have them.
We’ve sent 31 Abrams so far!
Another important step would be to FINALLY do the right thing and give Ukraine PERMISSION to strike mafia land!
The old fool will never change…

    • Mike, that’s never going to happen under this Sad Sack’s administration. That should be clear by now. No B-52s, either.
