Trump should immediately terminate the diesel agreement with Putin, Pence said.

US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel while Putin is striking civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense, according to Mike Pence, Vice President of the United States during Trump’s first term.

According to him, the American president’s actions “are a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham,” who authored the law imposing tough sanctions against Russia.

A man in a suit with light-colored hair speaks at a podium, looking serious and focused.

“While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to wage a terrorist war against civilians, and innocent Ukrainians die every day. Now, instead of imposing the tough sanctions that Lindsey Graham fought for with his last breath, President Trump has announced that the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy supplies, thereby fueling Putin’s war machine,” the post reads.

The politician noted that Putin is losing the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian troops have forced the enemy to stop and have also begun using drones, bringing the war directly to Russian territory.

Pence emphasized that America should not bail out Putin’s war machine. Instead, it should counter Russian aggression:

“Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants to take over Ukraine. I have no doubt: if Putin takes over Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time before Russian troops cross the border, and our troops will have to confront him.”

According to Pence, Trump must immediately cancel the diesel agreement with Putin for the sake of US national security and the security of allies in Europe, including Ukraine.

In addition, it is necessary to “impose strict sanctions on any country that purchases Russian energy and to work with our allies to provide Ukraine with the military support it needs to repel and ultimately defeat this Russian aggression,” the politician wrote.
