In Odesa, following the end of the resort season, previously designated recreational areas along the Black Sea coast have been closed. The Odesa Regional Military Administration explained that regular inspections of the seabed and searches for explosive devices on the beaches have been suspended, and lifeguard stations will no longer be operational.
The restrictions are outlined in a joint order issued by the Odesa Regional Military Administration and the command of the “Odesa” Operational-Strategic Group of Forces.
The Regional Military Administration emphasized that this is a seasonal decision that is made every year due to the war. At the start of the season, authorities designate sections of the coastline where recreation is permitted following inspections. Once the designated period ends, access to these areas is restricted again.
While the designated beaches are open to visitors, specialists regularly inspect the area and monitor water safety. Once the season ends and the relevant order expires, such ongoing monitoring ceases.
In particular, regular surveys of the seabed and inspections of the coastline for explosive devices will no longer be conducted. Lifeguard stations on the beaches will also cease operations.
“These safety measures since after the season ends, the relevant services no longer conduct ongoing monitoring of water safety, surveys of the seabed, or checks of the area for explosive devices, and lifeguard stations are also no longer operational,” the Odesa Regional State Administration explained.
As a reminder, last year, the Ukrainian Navy destroyed eight russian sea mines in a single operation in the Odesa Region; these had been washed ashore by a storm.
