The missile was fired at flight 8432 while the drone was operating over Grozny.

The crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane in Kazakhstan on Wednesday was caused by a Russian surface-to-air missile hitting the airliner, Euronews reported , citing sources in the Azerbaijani government.

According to them, the missile was fired at Flight 8432 while the drone was operating over Grozny. The shrapnel struck the passengers and crew when it exploded near the plane in flight.

Government sources told the publication that the damaged plane was not allowed to land at any Russian airport despite requests from the pilots for an emergency landing and was ordered to fly across the Caspian Sea to Aktau in Kazakhstan.

According to the data, the aircraft’s GPS navigation systems did not work throughout the entire flight path over the sea. The missile was allegedly fired from a Pantsir-S air defense missile system.

At the same time, according to Russian sources, during the flight over the territory of Chechnya, Russian air defense forces actively tried to shoot down the Ukrainian UAVs.

Chairman of the Security Council of the Chechen Republic Khamzat Kadyrov confirmed that a drone attack was carried out on Grozny on Wednesday morning, noting that there were no casualties or damage.
