Attack on the port of Pivdenny: smoke from burning tanks reached Odessa – is there a danger to people?

The Delta Wilmar sunflower and tropical oil processing and transhipment complex near Yuzhny continues to burn after a missile attack carried out yesterday by Russian Nazis .

As a Dumskaya correspondent reports, the smoke from the burning oil tanks has already reached Odessa and is visible from different parts of the city.

Is there a danger to people?

The state of atmospheric air in Odessa is constantly monitored by several organizations. One of them is the scientific and expert center for monitoring the natural environment of the State Ecological University, the data of which is updated every minute.

As of 13:25, the ODEKU laboratory did not record any excess of the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances.

The municipal mobile monitoring station does not track anything like this either.

Former rector of the environmental university, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Sergei Stepanenko says that there is no serious threat.

“Of course, people with asthma and other respiratory diseases will get worse,” he says. – But in general, if vegetable oil burns, there are no dangerous emissions to be expected. Only soot, greenhouse gases. In a good way, we need to conduct research, under-the-flare observations, and deploy a municipal mobile air monitoring station there.”

The Odessa Regional Center for Disease Control(C) and Prevention promised to comment on the situation within the next hour.
