Upcoming US sanctions against the construction of the North Stream-2 will affect more than 120 European companies.
This was stated by the ex-chancellor of Germany, chairman of the board of directors of Rosneft Gerhard Schroeder , reports Kommersant .
According to Schroeder, this ” is nothing but a deliberate termination of the transatlantic partnership.”
“More than 120 companies in the field of shipbuilding, engineering, environmental protection and safety, who work or have worked with Nord Stream 2, are directly affected … For each of these companies there are European jobs that are at risk,” Schreder quotes the Handelsblatt newspaper .
He also added that the penalties against the NATO ally during the economic downturn are “an attack on the European economy, an unacceptable encroachment on the sovereignty of the EU and the energy security of Western Europe.”
On the eve of the US Senate included additional sanctions against the construction of Nord Stream-2 in the draft defense budget .
Earlier , a bill was introduced in the Senate providing for additional sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project . According to Republican Senator Ted Cruise, one of the authors of the bill, the sanctions are aimed at “ preventing the completion of the construction of Nord Stream-2, and will apply to everyone who is involved in laying the gas pipeline in one way or another.”
The construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline was halted due to US sanctions. Gazprom said that the gas pipeline constructed at 94% will be commissioned by the Russian side.
