The occupiers in Avdievka continue to resort to “meat assaults,” throwing more and more reserves into battle to capture the city. At the same time, the Defense Forces are persistently grinding down the reserves of the Russians, so holding Avdievka is now profitable, noted ATO veteran Evgeniy Dikiy in an interview with Channel 24 .

“I’ll now say a terrible thing. This in no way means that it’s easy for our guys there, no, it’s very difficult for them. But from the point of view of the terrible arithmetic of war, it’s advantageous for us now that the Russians are so stubbornly taking Avdeevka. The ratio of losses in “Avdeevka is now one in twelve. For every one of our defenders killed, 12 Russians die. This is an absolutely terrible meat grinder that grinds their reserves. And the longer it works, the better off we are,” the military man noted.

As Dikiy noted, “being inside this meat grinder, even if you work in it with a knife, is very difficult.” However, he emphasizes that his close friends who are fighting there say that he must hold on because it makes sense.

At the same time, the ATO veteran says, the fate of Avdiivka may be affected by the situation with the shell famine in Ukraine. If it weren’t for the lack of shells, he is sure that it would have been possible to hold Avdievka for months.

“The Russians will not take Avdeevka itself with these stupid assaults. But there is only one highway there through Orlovka, which connects Avdievka with our rear. The occupiers have already advanced quite close to it and are crawling further. If they reach the highway, they will cut it. If it takes too long to hold back these meat assaults, when our artillery remains silent due to a lack of shells, the Russians will still crawl out. In this case, no one will leave a garrison there, no one will make a second Mariupol. Then we will have to retreat,” Dikiy explained.

At the same time, according to him, this will actually give the Russians nothing, only a “small political bonus,” since Avdiivka is located deep inside the occupied territories.

“That is, they will not break through our front, capturing the city. On the contrary, they will simply straighten out their front. In general, this is also useful. They will breathe a sigh of relief because we will be a little further from Donetsk. But no more. There is no talk of a deep breakthrough into our rear “, he noted.
